The 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is in full swing right now at the Los Angeles convention center. Lots of game interviews and previews coming out with one of them being particularly interesting for us Mirror's Edge fans.
But, first things first. As you might know by now, Mirror's Edge 2 has not been canned after all. Electronic Arts and DICE are "actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way", as said by EA's president Frank Gibeau in a recent E3 video interview at GameTrailers.
During the quick Mirror's Edge 2 E3 chat, Gibeau was also asked whether ME2 will use the Frostbite 2 engine to which he repied by "You'll see that combination, I'm sure." So, it looks like Unreal Engine 3, that powered the first game, has been replaced with DICE's own Frostbite 2 engine, famous for woving the gaming crowd with the Battlefield 3 demonstrations.
We have the over 10-minute interview clip embedded below. The ME2 section starts at the 10:28 mark.

Well I hate to break the news, but Mirror's Edge 2 appears to have been canned. Gaming site gamer.no posted today that a small team who have been working on the game have moved into other areas. Additionally, Patrick Soderlund - EA driving and shooting game boss has acknowledged that Mirror's Edge didn't quite meet their sales target.
"EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped – involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror’s Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity."
So there you have it. After so many glimmers of light and rumors along the way, our greatest fear has been realized.

Update on the Development of Mirror's Edge 2 |
|
It has been over one and a half years since Electronic Arts' Patrick Soderlund confirmed that DICE is working on the sequel for Mirror's Edge. EA has not discussed about Mirror's Edge 2 pretty much anywhere ever since... until now.
In a recent Eurogamer interview about EA's driving and shooting games, Patrick Soderlund has again made a quick mention about the second Mirror's Edge game. Patrick restated that they are absolutely continuing to support Mirror's Edge as an IP and that when the time is right, EA will talk about it, which probably translates into "you can look forward to an official Mirror's Edge 2 announcement sometime in the future".

Well today On-Mirrors-Edge is going to contact EA & DICE directly to see what's going on. If anyone from EA or DICE is reading this, please drop us a line (
