Editor Specs?

Meh, tried the editor after playing the game, so I stole the needed files from America's Army 3,
as I'm using the Steam version.
Anyway, did the required things, the copying of the needed files, shortcut to the game executable, putting the editor text thingie behind it 'n all.
Anyway...
Double-clicked the shortcut, and waited for 5 minutes.
Nothing, except a MirrorsEdge.exe in the process window...
I'll try it again now.
Does anyone know if there's a system requirement for the Unreal Editor?

Edit: it worked...

Re: Editor Specs?

You're not still trying to use that ATI Xpress 200 are you? You need a GPU that supports [pixel] shader model 3...
It might also pay to have a decent processor (I'm guessing dual-core minimum) and amount of RAM (2 GB minimum).

My brother's PC has a NVIDA 7100 which barely runs Mirror's Edge, and the editor thinks it only supports SM2 (and crashes after closing the message box). It also takes over 10 minutes to generate the shader caches (you'll find these somewhere in the Documents/EA Games/Mirror's Edge folder) on his PC, after that the editor starts up a bit quicker.

If you have a decent GPU, just leave it running in the background for an hour. If nothing appears, check to see if you created the shortcut correctly.

Edit: I didn't see your edit, oh well.

Re: Editor Specs?

No, I'm not using that sad and out-dated excuse for an IGP anymore.
Brother finally got himself a new one, and gave me his 8500 GT, so I can finally play the game.
And the editor starts much faster now.
Problem is, I can't find the textures used in game in the generic browser, or it's just me...
If someone'd tell me where to find them, I'd wuv him/her forever wink

Re: Editor Specs?

If you open the .me1 files for the chapter maps, it will load the associated textures, and you can start browing through the generic browser (notice the various filter options which can make it easier to find things).

If you're up for experimentation, you may also be able to open the various .upk files in your Steam install directory...look for things relating to textures/materials.  That should allow you to use them directly in a custom map without having to open a chapter, find a texture, close it, open your own map, etc.  smile

Re: Editor Specs?

Well, with a lot of lagg, and on DirectX 8.0...
But I can't seem to find that topic/thread anymore...

Not sure if you were directing that at me or Berthenk, so I'll just give you a snapshot of my experience with the 7100 (it up to the 7300 aren't officially supported) which in some way supports SM3:
-A lot of painful TdConfig.ini experimenting went on during the first week I got the game to get the game into the menu and able to load levels.
-I have to use a TdInput.ini binding to activate wireframe mode to see time-trial checkpoints.
-Graphics are ugly, but the previous mod also toggles a graphics mode that makes the game run a lot smoother by removing a lot of effects (and gets rid of bad lighting: air vents become bright), so it also becomes uglier in some cases (but lighting doesn't look like vomit).
-Sometimes I have to try running the game more than once/twice to successfully get into the menu and level even after the "sweet spot" settings have been found.

Would love to ditch that 7100 but the PC isn't mine and my brother uses the video-out (composite) to watch videos on a SD TV.
