They released another equipment DLC for Halloween costumes.
The problem: The download is only 108 KB. There's NO way they're fitting textures and objects into that kind of space, no matter what form of compression you're using. Therefore, it can be concluded that we players are being forced to pay for data already on the disk.
A fact already proven when a team of crackers unlocked both Yoda and Vader in the same game.
((And why is spell check coming on with the word "proven"?!?!?!))

Are you sure that the download just doesn't enable the feature so that somehow when it contacts a server it downloads it then?
Is this really proven, or has there been a statement from the developers? I'd be interested to see.
That's like shipping a game, then cutting off the last few missions, and force you to pay for them like it's an "expansion"

What would be the point of downloading a "key" so that it can contact it and download it later? What they're doing is giving keys for content already on the disk.
And there was a team that unlocked both Yoda and Vader using only the disk and their 1337 cracking skillz.

That's just NOT right for Namco to do this.

Yes it is right for them to do this.
They have the right to modify data on the disc, using that 108KB download they have to right to give you access to data on the disc which was previously inaccessible (whether it was there or not doesn't matter).

Sounds like somthing sony would do.

Hmmm, after all that DRM business in the other thread, most Terms do state that you only own the disc, not the software on it, and that you are only able to use what is on the disc. Unless it states that you are entitled to all that is on the disc, it's okay for them to do this.
Is it right? NO WAY! It's a Horrible marketing act, and is very degrading of them. but what can we do?

Yeah, they're definitely putting up keys for download. EVERY one is 108 KB in size. Also, the two latest DLC items (which are weapon packs) admit in the description that they are unlockable in-game. Those packs are 300 points apiece!
Edit: Namco's doing it to all of their games. Tales of Vesperia has similar DLC things going on.

The other thing with that is that it's really not "new" content. It's something that has already been made that they could have easily put into the game, but decide to release it later? I would want DLC that goes well with the game, after a few months of seeing how people like it and what they like about. Then you could get some really cool stuff.

Both methods have their pros and cons.
Pros:
- Really quick downloads
- Really quick access
- Really quick loading
Cons:
- Some unhappy customers (due to the fact they are paying to use the stuff they had)
- Easy to hack
I can see why the method was used. Sort of...

I have to agree with felixtheswordsman and LoganC on this one. When a company releases a product, you're expecting to be paying for the "final" product. Any DLC released is usually considered an afterthought, or an expansion pack to an already complete game. The fact that you're being forced to pay for data that's already stored on your disc is like me selling you my car, then telling you: "Oh, you gave me $14,000 so the CAR is yours, but if you want the KEYS to it, you have to give me another $2,000".
It's basically a way to bank more money, since we already chipped out $60 for the disc, and now have to pay $2.00 each time we want to "unlock" any of the data on it. I, personally, would much rather have a company be straight out about it, and try and sell the game for $70 bucks, than to make you buy a "locked" product, then make you pay in small increments in order to get to the stuff you literally already own.
Unfortunately, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it... except maybe stop buying Namco games?
/Edit: Don't want to double post, so I'm editing this one:
Saw this this morning:
http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/store … RIVWeaponS
"Please note that items from this set can also be acquired within the game so purchase this pack wisely. "
Rather than releasing a special code that unlocks stuff for people that haven't been able to unlock it the traditional way (such as Konami did with the Desert Eagle L.B. codes in MGS4), they say "Hey, pay us money, and we unlock it for you :-p"
This is getting ridiculous, if this is the future of gaming, I don't want to get there...
